Question about Saints

Question:

What is a “saint”?

Answer:

The word means “dedicated to God, holy, sacred” (Arndt, W.F. and F.W. Gingrich, A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament. 9). This is simply a descriptive name for disciples of Christ. Saul of Tarsus persecuted the church (Acts 8:3). In doing so he persecuted the disciples (Acts 9:1), that is, the “saints” (Acts 9:13). These disciples are also called by the proper, God given name, “Christians” (Acts 11:25-26). We are called “saints” because we have been separated from sin and to God (2 Corinthians 6:14 – 7:1).
